Richard Waygood

Richard Waygood started his career at the age of 16 when he joined the Household Cavalry. After many years of hard work and dedication, he was commissioned from the ranks to hold the highly prestigious and respected post of Riding Master for the Household Cavalry. This role encompassed many duties from the State Opening of Parliament to choreographing and running the world famous Household Cavalry Musical Ride which performed worldwide.

He was the first serving officer of the British Army to compete at Badminton for 23 years where he not only finished clear but was also inside the top 20. He went on to compete there a further three times and has been placed at other major three day events such as Luhmuhlen, Blenheim and Burghley. He retired a Major in 2009 and in the same year received an MBE by Her Majesty The Queen for services to equestrianism.

As well as being a top event rider, he is a BE accredited trainer, is the Chef d’Equipe and trainer for the 2** European Eventing Team and took over as Chef d’Equipe for the British Dressage Team during the build up to the 2012 Olympics. He coaches and trains many riders up to international level and also coaches riding instructors. He can also be spotted conducting course walks at many of the top events!

In 2016, Richard was named Chef’ Equipe of the British Event Team in preparation for the 2017 European Championships, wherein Britain won GOLD. Richard and British Eventing Coach Christopher Bartle are now preparing the British Team for the imminent 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina next August.
