Don Good and Arthur Tateishi
hosted the live auction

"imagine (!) Athens 2004" exceeded all our expectations", enthused Arthur Tateishi, chair of Eventing Canada [!]. "We had made the commitment to designate 50% of the proceeds of the evening to fund the dressage training of the Olympic Three Day Team in preparation for Athens. It is evident that the Eventing community rose to the occasion. We raised over $20,000!" The event shattered our attendance and fundraising record.

Mono Community Centre, north of Orangeville, ON was invaded on Saturday evening by more than 130 enthusiasts who bid, ate, bid, danced and bid again for a huge array of eclectic items in a silent and live auction format in support of the Athletes of Three Day Event destined for the summer Olympics in Athens.

Over 200 items were on offer, with a few select items, such as celebrity signed equine treasures, auctioned live by horse owner and sponsor, DON GOOD. Three hours of "personal service" donated by Short Listed Athlete, KARL SLEZAK, received lively bidding from the crowd, and to the relief of Slezak, DR. USHA KNABE was the successful bidder at $1050.00. One of the highlights of the live auction was a trip to Burghley CCI**** this fall, which received the highest successful bid of $3500. from Ian Locke .

At the height of the evening's activities, the Directors awarded the coveted Heather Wellman Youth Bursary to KYLE KEMP of Belleville, ON. This annual award is presented in honour of one of Eventing Canada [!] 's founding directors whose passion and dedication to the Sport of Horse Trials and Three Day Event were unparalleled. Mrs. Wellman died in July 2002. It was her wish that a deserving young Rider, who shared her passion for the Sport, would receive both public and financial recognition.

What is imagine (!) ?
imagine [!] is one of the many fundraising efforts which Eventing Canada [!] undertakes throughout the year in order to continue its role to fund Athletes to train and compete.

Incorporated in 1996 to be an independent amateur athletic association whose mandate is to provide training and competitive opportunities to Athletes in the Olympic Sport of Three Day Event, Eventing Canada [!] hosts clinics across Canada with International clinicians.

In 2005, the clinicians will include: James Wofford, Pat Burgess, Mary Wanless and Lucinda Green.

Eventing Canada [!] also organizes the very popular Ride for Riders which brings top Canadian clinicians from all disciplines to coach Eventers from across Ontario. The proceeds from this fun-filled educational day, last year scheduled for July 31st at Glen Oro and Grandview Farms in Hawkestone, ON, are credited to the Event Riders' Benevolent Fund. The ERBF is designed to assist those Athletes in the Sport who are injured, or suffer a tragedy, and has made eight disbursements since its inception.
