Imagine! It just get's better. This was lucky year
number 13 for this one-of-a-kind silent auction event, which forms a primary source of funds to support our athletes and organizers throughout the year. This year, by popular demand, saw a return to the
Orangeville Fairgrounds in Mono, ON. The venue is just about perfect to layout the many donated items gathered for the occasion:
With over 110 items on the books this year, the punters
weren't to be disappointed. Over 130 attendees were allocated a bid number to register their bids on items of interest. Some of the hotly contested items included custom XC body protectors from Phoenix
Performance Products and Casel Equi, Charles Owen Cross Country helmets from Baker's Harness, an enormous DVD gift basked from BFS Entertainment, a basket of English tea and confectionary and, of course
a variety of entries, schooling sessions and lessons that always prove popular:
Bidders worked up an appetite as they competed discreetly, and Ah Lindella Caterers were on hand to serve a generous buffet including all the usual favourites. The most eclectic items went to live auction,
under the hammer of Usha Knabe, and they included a training session at David O'Connor farm in Virginia, a body protector signed by the Canadian Team, a performance of the sequel to the infamous play
"Scattersex" by Hugh Morshead and dinner-for-four at the lesser known "Estrogen Palace" - promising an evening of entertainment like no other for the highest bidder!?! :
To round out the perfect evening, the live auction was followed by dancing courtesy of D.J Ken Burgess.
Throughout the course of the evening, the silent auction items were closed discreetly at random and winning bidders were revealed during a checkout
process. By the time the cash register was closed for the evening, the net proceeds totalled $9500, half of which was donated immediately to support the Canadian Eventing Team on their journey to the Pam
Am Games in Rio de Janeiro at the end of July. Waylon Roberts, Jessica Phoenix and Penny Rowland, representing the Canadian Eventing team, were among the attendees and virtually no-one left empty handed.
In fact, I'm looking forward to Imagine! 2008 already – see you there!
